Each year, more than 2.2 million people in developing countries die from preventable diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene. Zero to Hero Foundation wants to help put an end to this.
Zero to Hero’s pilot project will focus on working with four communities in the Raigadh Village of the Tapi district in Gujarat, India. Zero to Hero’s local partners includes the Raigadh Village Committee and Learning Groups, Better Cotton Initiative, and Arvind Limited.
Phase I: Community Sanitation Facilities
Goal: Improve health and sanitation in Raigadh Village by providing proper toilet facilities.
Completed the building of facilities for approx. 1000 families. The balance of the construction is in process and due for completion Spring 2014 for 2000 more families.
Phase II: Women’s Sewing Center
Goal: Provide opportunities for the women, especially widows, of Raigadh Village, to be self-sufficient and provide for their families.
Completed the building of center for women & widow’s and completed the implementation of workshops and training for the 5 villages in the region. See attached outline.
Phase III: Children’s Orphanage
Goal: Provide the Raigadh Village orphanage with proper shelter, nutrition, and education.
